First question: Where are you?
Genesis 3:9 But the LORD God called to the man, "Where are you?".
God is omnipotent, omnipresent, and omniscience. Meaning God is all powerful, everywhere and all knowing. Nothing is hidden from Him, He knows the past, present and future. God knew what His creation will do even before He created them. The bible says that God has planned the salvation of man through Christ before the foundation of the world. God did not ask Adam the question " Where are you?" to know Adam's whereabouts but rather to make Adam understand the consequences of his action.Adam was truthful and admitted he is naked so hid himself, but he blamed it on Eve and Eve blamed it on Satan. In the process everyone man, woman and Satan were cursed by God. Today God is asking us the same question, " Where are you?". We are to examine ourselves honestly and come up with an answer, no blame game. We cannot blame anyone for our mistakes, but take full responsibility. We must examine our spiritual condition. Jesus said in Matthew 7:21 not everyone who says to me 'Lord, Lord' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. Are you doing the will of The Father?. Are you following the commandments of Jesus?.
2nd Question: Genesis 16:8 Where have you come from? Where are you going?
Hagar was Sarah's servant and Sarah asked Abram to take Hagar, so that Abram can have decedents. Hagar became pregnant and started to treat Sarah with contempt. Hagar forgot where she came from and what her position in Sarah's house because of the momentary pride. Sarah blamed Abraham for this mess , even though it was Sarah's idea to begin with. Sarah started to treat Hagar badly and so Hagar ran away. But God met Hagar in the desert and asked her the question :" Hagar, servant of Sarah, where have you come from and where are you going?. Hagar told Him the truth. Then the angel of the Lord told her to go back to Sarah and submit to her. God knew Hagar and what she is going through but that was not the right time to go away from Sarah but to be under submission to Sarah. This is true for us today, God knows our name, our situation and circumstances. The work place may be unpleasant, co workers are mean, pay is not good and not enough hours of work, but God wants you to wait for His time. We must also know where we are coming from and where we are and where we are going. If it is not God's time or will we may end up in a bigger trouble. The bible says in Proverb 16:25 There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death. God has placed life and death before us ans asked us to choose life. Deuteronomy 30:19. Jesus said in Matthew 7:13 " Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it'. We need to ask ourselves where am I coming from, where am I. and where am I going?.
3rd Question: What are you doing here?
1 King 19:1 The word of the LORD came to him" What are you doing here, Elijah?.
Elijah did a great miracle on the Mount Carmel. He prayed and fire from heaven came down to burn the offerings. He killed prophets of Baal and Ashroef about 850 of them. Then he prayed and brought down rain after three and a half years. He ran faster than the chariot of King Ahab from Mount Carmel to Jezreel. But after all these marvelous works came tiredness due to lack of rest and food and Elijah was depressed when he heard Ahab's wife Jezebel's order to kill him. This proves that Elijah was a man like us and had ups and down. James 5:17.
God fed him through an angel and Elijah goes to Mount Horeb after travelling forty days and forty nights and hid himself in a cave. That's when God's word comes to him with the Question " What are you doing here, Elijah?
Again the question is not for God's informtion but for Elijah.
Elijah answers God by telling Him about all he has done for God. Elijah also informed god that he is the only one left that do the will of God and the King and Queen want to kill him. God doesn't need information , he knows what we do for Him and He even knows our motive behind it. God told Elijah that he was not the only one but there are 7000 faithful people still living for God. God also told Elijah to go back and complete his tasks before his time is up.
Today God is asking us the same question "what are you doing here?' Are you in a place where God wants you to be or you are here because you are afraid of people? where are you going ? going with the world, compromising with the world?. Friendliness with the world is enmity with God. You cannot serve two masters. We are in the world but not of the world. We are chosen generation, royal priesthood and a holy nation set apart for good works. Some times we think we are the only ones who are faithful and zealous to God, but God always has a remnant who are faithful to Him. Please do not lecture God about all your services, all your faithfulness and all your greatness in your prayers. God hates the proud. Be humble and submit yourselves in His hands and He will lift you up in due time. 1 Peter 5:6
