"PRIDE Pride is a sin, that creeps into a human being due to various reasons. Humans are proud about their heritage, family, position, race, beauty,education, money and even their religious belief. The devil's and the first sin was pride. Isiah 14: 12-17 and Ezekiel 28:12-19 says how Satan has fallen from his exalted position as a Cherub because of his pride. Pride is an abomination to God, Proverb 6:16-19 These six things the LORD hates, Yes, seven are an abomination to Him: A proud look, A lying tongue, Hands that shed innocent blood, A heart that devices wicked plans, Feet that are swift in running to evil, A false witness who speaks lies, And one who sows discord among brethren. Proverb 16:18 Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.Proverb 21:24 A proud and haughty man-"scoffer" is his name; He acts with arrogant pride. Jesus said in Mark 7:20-23 And He said" what comes out of a man, that defiles a man. For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lewdness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness. All these evil things come within and defile a man." Jesus was angry at the religious leaders for their pride. Pride prevents a man to do good to those who are in a helpless state, a proud man thinks highly of himself and thinks lowly of others. Christians are to behave with humility and not with pride and the word of God clearly instructs us to be humble and not to be proud about anything that we have achieved or posses.
Because everything we have or we have become is because of God, we cannot achieve without God's grace. The word of God says in Jeremiah 9:23:24 Thus says the LORD: " Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, let not the mighty man glory in his might, nor let the rich man glory in his riches; But let him who glories glory in this, that he understands and knows Me, that I am the LORD, exercising loving kindness, judgement, and righteousness in the earth. For in these I delight, " says the Lord. 1 John 2:16 For all that is in the world- the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes , and the pride of life- is not of the father but is of the world. Pride destroyed Pharaoh and his army , Pride drove Nebuchadnezzar (Daniel Chapter 4)to live with wild animals for seven years, Pride killed Herod(Acts 12: 21-23), pride prevented pharisees and Sadducees from following Christ and pride still to these days preventing people from following Christ. Romans 12:3 For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God dealt to each one a measure of faith. Galatians 6:14 But God forbid that I should boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.
Jesus talked about how a prideful man's prayer is not answered in Luke 18:10-14 " Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a pharisee and the other a tax collector. The pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, ' God, I thank you that I am not like other men- extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this tax collector. I fast twice a week; I give tithes of all that I possess.' And the tax collector, standing far off, would not as much as raise his eyes to heaven, but beat his chest, saying, ' God be merciful to me a sinner.' I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted." James 3:14 But if you have bitter envy and self seeking in your hearts, do not boast and lie against the truth. James 4:6 But He gives more grace,
. Therefore He says: " God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble."
James 4:16 But now you boast in your arrogance. All such boasting is evil.
1 Peter 5:5 All of you be submissive to one another, and be clothed with humility, for " God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble."
Remember: Proverb 8:13 The fear of the LORD is to hate evil; Pride and arrogance and the evil way and the perverse mouth I hate.
