The world reacts negatively as they hear the name of Jesus. Comedians make fun of the name, pro life, pro gay groups oppose the name fiercely, atheist groups sue any display of the name in public! why?
The Bible says in Ephesians 6:12, "for we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against powers, against the rulers of darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in heavenly places".
Satan knows the power of the name of Jesus. So he works through humans to prevent the spread of the name of Jesus. People who oppose Christ know that Christians do not react violently to opposition. Christians usually keep quiet when Christ is mocked, they don't protest on the street or burn and destroy property when a cross is immersed in urine and displayed as art in a museum. The other problem is lukewarm Christians agree with the world on abortion, gay issues, divorce and immoral living. So the world has become bold in their opposition and persecution of Christians.
Jesus Christ told the disciples that Christ followers will be persecuted. Luke 21:12-19, "But before all these things, they will lay their hands on you and persecute you, delivering you up to the synagogues and prisons. you will be brought before kings and rulers for for My name's sake. But it will turn out for you as an occasion for testimony. Therefore settle it in your hearts not to meditate beforehand on what you will answer; for I will give you a mouth and wisdom which all your adversaries will not be able to contradict or resist. you will be betrayed even by parents and brothers, relatives and friends; and they will put some of you to death. and you will be hated by all for My name's sake. But not a hair of your head shall be lost. By your patience possess your souls". Jesus was persecuted, His disciples were persecuted and His followers over the centuries were persecuted. If we follow Christ faithfully, we will be persecuted. Satan has blinded the eyes of the people and so they can't hear the words of life.
It is sad that the world is ready to teach children from their young age about sex, gay life style and provide condoms and birth control pills in schools. They even support minor girls who want to have abortion without parental consent, but fiercely oppose prayer, bible or even the mention of Jesus' name in schools! The reason is, man like Satan thinks that he is above God. It was pride that cost Satan a place in heaven and the same is happening to humans. The other problem is people don't believe that there is a Satan and he is looking for ways to destroy the human race. Non believers call Christians weird because of these beliefs!
Why then do Christians take so much pain, effort, sacrifice and money to spread the gospel? Because they believe in the commandment given to them by Jesus before He ascended to heaven. Matthew 28:18-20, And
Jesus came and spoke to them saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Because of this command and the love Christians have for the people who do not know Christ and the compassion to prevent people from going to hell, they preach Christ. Say, a man found a cure for all cancers, should he be selfish and keep it to himself or should he let every one know about the cure? This is what Christians are doing. The world hates them for doing so, non believers get angry when you say that Jesus Christ is the only way to GOD. They do not believe that GOD will have only one way, they want to believe that there are many ways to GOD and if they do enough good works, they will make it. Christians should be ready for rejection, ridicule, persecution and even death. Not many are going to accept Jesus Christ. Our duty is to tell people about Christ and His love and sacrifice for us and those who believe will have ever lasting life. Not many people are going to accept the word of God or The Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus himself said in MATT 7:13-14, "Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it."
Our duty is to proclaim Jesus Christ and the way of salvation. It is not in our hands , whether anyone will accept Jesus. It is in GOD's hands. If people reject the message they are not rejecting us but only rejecting GOD. Jesus told His disciples in MATT 10: 11-15, "now whatever city or town you enter, inquire who in it is worthy, and stay there till you go out. and when you go into a household, greet it, if the household is worthy, let your peace come upon it, but if it is not worthy, let your peace return to you, and whoever will not receive you nor hear your words, when you depart from that house or city, shake off the dust from your feet. assuredly I say to you, it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgement than for that city!" Rev 22:11, He who is unjust let him be unjust still: he who is filthy, let him be filthy still; he who is righteous, let him be righteous still; he who is holy, let him be holy still." Jude 14-15 says Now Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied about these men, also saying, " Behold, the Lord comes with ten thousands of His saints, to execute judgement on all, to convict all who are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have committed in an ungodly way, and all the harsh things which ungodly sinners have spoken against Him"
