There is a lack of reverence for god among Christians. Once you start talking about fear of God, There is a push back . The evangelicals and Pentecostals only like to hear God's love, grace and mercy and don't want to hear the words like fear of God, reverence, sin and repentance. they claim that we are living in the new testament times and don't need to have any fear of God, They have all kinds of fear, like fear of height, fear of closed spaces, fear of spiders, fear of death, and even fear of viruses like covid-19. Romans 3:18 "There is no fear of God before their eyes."
2 Corinthians 7:1 Therefore , having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God. Ephesians 5:21 Submitting to one another in the fear of God.
Acts 13: 26 " Men and brethren, sons of the family of Abraham, and those among you who fear God, to you the word of this salvation has been sent.
Jesus being equal to GOD did not act like many Christians. The word of God says about Jesus in Hebrews 5:7 Who, in the days of His flesh, when He had offered up prayers and supplications , with vehement cries and tears to Him who was able to save Him from death, was heard because of His godly fear, though He was a Son, yet He learned obedience by the things which He suffered. Jesus did this so that we'll follow Him like He did. Today the Christians come to churches late, disrupting the worship, walk in with coffee, bagels and doughnuts , talk to other people , hug them, inquire about the wellness while the worship team is singing or the pastor is preaching or during the prayers being offered. The word of God says in Matthew 18:20 for when two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them." If we believe that how come we treat the church like a marketplace? We read in the word of God that Jesus chased the people out of the temple because they did not treat the temple like God's house. God said to Israel , talking about their outward actions In Isaiah 1:12-13 " When you come to appear before Me, Who has required this from your hand, to trample My courts? Bring no more futile sacrifices; Incense is an abomination to Me. The new moons, the sabbaths, and the calling of assemblies- I cannot endure iniquity and the sacred meeting. Malachi 1:6- " A son honors his father, and a servant his master, If then I am the Father, where is My honor/ And if I am a Master where is My reverence? says the LORD of hosts to you priests who despise My name. Yet you say, ' in what way have we despised Your name?' You offer defiled food on My altar, but say 'In what way have we defiled you?' By saying ' The table of the Lord is contemptible' And when you offer the lame and sick, is it not evil? offer it then to your governor! Would he be pleased with you? Would he accept you favorably?" says the LORD of hosts. Of course we do not bring animal sacrifice now but we are to bring sacrifices of our lips, that is our praise. We are the temple of God and the Holy Spirit resides within us, if that is the case how can we treat out time of worship with contempt? How will accept our worship? When we go to meet our managers at work or suppose we go to meet our president will we not behave reverentially with respect? If a man commands respect , how much more the GOD of universe deserve? Why can't we understand that? God knows what is in our heart and cares about the attitude of the heart that the outward appearance, The word of God says in Luke 6:45 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bring forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks. In the same way the actions and our attitude also shows what is in our heart.
Let us examine what the word of God says about fear of God and what is the benefits of it. The word of God says in Proverbs 8:13 The fear of the LORD is to hate evil; Proverbs 9:10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, The knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. Proverbs 16: 6 In mercy and truth atonement is provided for iniquity; And by the fear of the LORD one departs from evil. Fear of God is being afraid of Him and expect Him to punish you each time we sin. The fear of God has it's benefits. Deuteronomy 6:2 long life, Proverbs 10:27 The fear of the LORD adds length to life, Proverbs 14:2 He whose walk is upright fears the LORD, Proverbs 14:27 The fear of the Lord is a fountain of life.
Proverb 14: 26 He who fears the LORD has a secure fortress, and for his children it will be a refuge. Proverbs 15:33 The fear of the LORD teaches a man wisdom,
Proverbs 19:23 The fear of the LORD leads to life; Then one rests content, untouched by trouble. Proverbs 22:4 Humility and the fear of the LORD bring wealth and honor and life. The wicked has no fear of GOD. ( Psalm 36:1, Genesis 20:11)
God requires it.
Deuteronomy 10:12 And now, O Israel, what does the LORD your God ask of you but to fear the LORD your God, to walk in all his ways, to love him, to serve the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul, and to observe the LORD's commands and decrees that I am giving you today for your own good?
Ecclesiastes 12 :13 Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear GOD and keep His commandments for this bis the whole , duty, of man.
Revelation 14:7 He said in a loud voice, Fear God and give HIM glory because the hour of His judgement has come.
So let us worship God with all our heart , mind , soul and spirit. Jesus said those who worship God must worship in truth and spirit.
